This session focuses on addressing and dismantling anti-Black racism in a Canadian context. This workshop will provide a general overview of anti-oppression theories and principles, including concepts of power, privilege, positionality and intersectionality.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Brieanne Berry Crossfield (she/her, Brie) is a Jamaican-Canadian writer, communications specialist and public educator with a focus on equity, research and public education.

Over the last decade, Brie has held various roles within higher education, non-profit organizations and grassroots movements dedicated to embedding the principles and practices of anti-racism, anti-poverty, and anti-sexual violence in everyday life.

Brie holds her BA in Communication Studies and Women and Gender Studies and M.Ed in Social Justice Education. Her work is influenced by her deep commitment to Black Studies, Anti-Racist and Feminist Theory, as well as the belief that there is always a possibility for changing the world as we know it.
